Our Story
Mercy Childcare was founded by Pastor Wilfred Blair Rugumba and Pastor Wilson Bugembe in 2002. This work was inspired by Pastor Wilson’s life story; having lost both of his parents to AIDS, he ended up living on the streets of Kampala. Pastor Wilson had been facing mistreatment from his grandparents when he met a good Samaritan on the street who took Wilson into his home and educated him. Pastor Wilson later started singing about his life story and his music has blessed so many people in Uganda.
Our Response
In response to the overwhelming numbers of street children, orphans and abandoned babies being brought to us for help, we opened a single-room house (10x8ft) for such children. At that time we were still in high school. Since then we have continued taking in children, doing what we can for each individual and their family as the Lord allows us.
Statement of Faith
-
We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative word of God.
-
We believe that there is one God, creator of heaven and earth, eternally existent in three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
-
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, and in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return to power and glory.
-
We believe in the fall and consequent total moral depravity of humanity, resulting in our exceeding sinfulness and lost estate, and necessitating our regeneration by the Holy Spirit.
-
We believe that, for the salvation of lost and sinful man, repentance of sin and faith in Jesus Christ results in regeneration by the Holy Spirit and that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation.
-
We believe in the present and continuing ministry of sanctification by the Holy Spirit by whose infilling the believing Christian is cleansed and empowered for a life of holiness and service.
-
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; those who are saved to the resurrection of life and those who are lost to the resurrection of damnation and eternal punishment.
-
We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ and that all true believers are members of His body, the Church.
-
We believe that the ministry of evangelism is the responsibility of both the church and each Christian.
